I did consider focusing on Pericles' career (and modern fame) with respect to attempted ostracism against him; it's a fascinating story. But Cimon, Pericles, and other 5th century figures are so intertwined that their stories would need much more space than I could give them here to properly tell them. I decided to leave out almost all biographical details surrounding ostracisms to focus on historical epistemology and to provoke thoughts for our modern times.
